UK Border Agency

Border visibility

Lacock Gullam has been working with Applied Information Group to develop information and products that will raise the visibility of the border control process at UK ports and airports.

The border visibility project was commissioned to improve the inconsistent and poor perception of UK border control within the majority of ports.

AIG and Lacock Gullam designed and developed the prototype currently in use at Stansted Airport, with further applications implemented at Gatwick and Heathrow, including Terminal 5.

The project seeks to define the UK Border Agency’s area of authority within the Ports and raise awareness of the Agency’s presence. Underlying this, the project also seeks to deliver benefits to the user through better provision of information improving both perceptions and efficiency of the passport control.

The prototype uses a flexible system of Immigration Officer desks, information totems and walls, landing card desks and overhead gantries, to enhance the user experience of passing through UK border control.
